Just Silly

◆◆ · By DrTom · Published 2024-05-05T01:00:30.562Z

Constructor's Note
This is not a meta, just punny and silly. You'll need to think a bit outside the box to solve, but I hope it will be amusing.
You know the old saying about a group on monkeys and the works of Shakespeare, well apparently if you give me a computer and enough time to just be silly, a puzzle emerges. There is no meta answer, there is really no good sense to this except that I hope my punny nature and some odd definitions cause you some laughter. If you try to solve this using your "usual" crossword sense you'll be at it all day. Think DrTom or MikeyG to the extreme and that might help.

Tom you've out-punned yourself! This was wild. I hit reveal and it turned out my only error was I had a C instead of an S at cross of 65A and 54D. SOOOO close. Thanks!

Had the same error, but figured it out. Fun puzzle, Dr. Tom!

What I said to KayW. Thanks Mark!

Hey DrTom, that broke my brain even with multiple reveals.
Can I make an appointment? 😂

Well I'd offer you mine instead but I think you might find that even worse. Thanks for "being silly"

Thanks, Dr. Tom !! Loved the clues for "Arod", "Pregret" and "Dullema".

Like most of these silly thing, the long "themers" were the ones I started with and the other ideas came as I filled. I often see AROD in a puzzle and often clue it as things like "Lopez ex-love" but have thought in the past about the measurement. When you are as Goofy as I can be (apologies to Disney) these things sometimes pop into the place most people's minds are.

This was fun in exactly the way advertised! I got 80% through (mostly stuck in the SE) and finally had to start checking to fit a finish into our schedule.
I definitely didn’t fully comprehend all of the wordplay, so some of these may have been intended, but: A couple tiny typos in the clues to 31D and 53D.
And two questions: did 44A intend Greek rather than Roman? And what is the cover photo?
            • DrTom constructor · 2024-05-05T16:44:42.020Z
Whoops - this is what happens when you serve pretty much as your own editor. Meta puzzles are reviewed by several people who usually find my screwups, but here...well. Thanks, I fixed those. Oh, and yes it was supposed to be Greek, I changed it. As for the cover, just people being silly.
Thanks for struggling through, if there are particular ones that you don't understand either PM me or ask here and I'll try to unravel my thinking on them. They all made sense when I did them...of course so did Greeks and Omega.😂

I'm glad I got as much as I did before needing to check it. I wish you all the success in the world with this format and hope to get more on your wavelength one day.

Well this is not my usual stuff, it was an exercise in silliness and free association. Usually I do Meta puzzles which are less punny and odd (well I think so at least) and can be found here (Crosshare) and https://www.xword-muggles.com/viewforum.php?f=45. I'd love it if you gave one of those a try.

I pushed reveal instead of print. How do I get back to the puzzle?

Ok that was fair enough but I think a few of the wrong answers I had were better jokes. Ahh well
                      • DrTom constructor · 2024-05-06T22:15:13.738Z
I would not be at all surprised, half the fun of letting your mind roam free is what it finds on the trip!
Thanks for giving it a try, and by all means tell us your answers.

It felt good to get it without any errors, though it did take a couple of sessions.
